At a recent Austrade seminar on mining in Mongolia and Russia, Gorokhov told ILN many Russian coal companies were using out-of-date equipment manufactured many years ago in the Soviet Union.
He said Russian companies did not know much about Australian mining capabilities.
Gorokhov outlined key areas of interest for Russian mining companies.
These include the leasing and acquisition of mining equipment, mining software and systems development, contract mining and drilling services, and training services in general engineering and business procedures.
He said Russian companies sought expertise in the fields of prospecting and definition of new and existing orebodies, and integrating project management along with other consulting services.
Austrade is organising, but not yet marketing, a trade mission to Russia, Ukraine and Poland for around the end of the year.
Announced in June, longwall equipment from Bucyrus helped Siberian Coal Energy Company’s Kotinskaya mine in western Siberia break Russian records, hitting an annual output of 4.5 million tonnes.
Bucyrus said the Kotinskaya mine was equipped with its shield supports, automation technology and armoured face conveyors.
In July, Bucyrus took an order for a complete automated plow longwall for the Bogdanka mine in Poland, the first time such a system has been sold to the country.
A number of other Australian mining equipment and service companies have also found success in the country over the past few years.
