Queensland volumes increased 14% compared to the March 2013 quarter due to increased demand, with a major customer operating under a legacy contract continuing to contribute a significant portion of the growth.
The company said volumes in the quarter were impacted by weather related port closures, which are typical during the March quarter as well as seasonal effects following the end of the calendar year.
New South Wales volumes increased 2% compared to the previous corresponding period, with growth impacted by industrial action in late February as well as seasonal effects.
Net tonne kilometres growth of 19% compared to the previous period reflects increased growth in longer haul contracts in Queensland.
Aurizon said guidance for the 2014 financial year remained 207芒鈧�212Mt, which takes into account recent weather impacts from Tropical Cyclone Ita.
