Vietnam Coal increases exports

According to an Asia Pulse report, the company sold nearly 17.4 million tonnes of coal this year, an increase of 33% on 2003 figures.

The corporation said it planned to sell 25-26 million tonnes this year, including nine million tonnes for export.

Vietnam contains coal reserves estimated at 165 million tons, the majority of which is anthracite.

According to the US Energy Information Administration, Japan is the primary buyer of coal from the country, with China also recently becoming a major importer of Vietnamese coal.
