The company said production at its Bengalla Mine, near Muswellbrook in New South Wales, was below the preceding quarter and the third quarter of 2004 due to mining in a less productive region. The mine produced 1.21Mt during the quarter.
Coal & Allied said semi-soft and thermal coal production at its Mt Thorley/Warkworth operations, 15km south-west of Singleton, varied as a result of the different coal seams exposed.
Planned maintenance at Hunter Valley operations affected production during the quarter where coal production totalled almost 3Mt.
On the exploration and development front, the company continued work on the feasibility study of the Mount Pleasant deposit near Muswellbrook.
Two open-cut operations have been planned for the deposit – North pit (mining five coal seams) and South pit (mining eight coal seams), with a combined potential life of more than 25 years.
