The theme for the two-day event is “Making a Difference”. Several general sessions will be held that will cover items of interest for all types of mining, including coal.

Among the topics on March 30 are “Eyes, Ears, Brains, Slips, Trips and Falls”, presented by Carl Metzgar, “Cost of an Accident” by T Scott Hartness of Hanson Aggregates and “A Risk-Based Approach to Equipment Guarding”, which will be discussed by L Harvey Kirk of the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

During the second and final day of the conference, attorney Adele Abrams will present “Substance Abuse Prevention in the Mining Industry”. Another highlight to the agenda taking place shortly before the noon adjournment will be “The Key to Mine Emergency Management – Recognise, React and Respond”, given by Tracy Delude of the Associated General Contractors of Vermont.
