Xstrata and Tahmoor workers have been negotiating for a new workplace agreement for the past 14 months, but a revised offer this week by Xstrata was refused.
A Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union spokesperson told International Longwall News the offer “took negotiations back a year” and was not acceptable.
Workers wanted a rollover of their existing agreement with pay rises.
ABC News reported 200 workers stepped up industrial action on Monday, stopping work for 24 hours.
The CFMEU spokesperson said workers now planned to stop train loading and would not wash more than 200 tonnes of coal per hour for five days, starting next Monday.
Xstrata communications manager James Rickards told ABC the two documents tabled this week were “very fair” and in the best interests of employees and the future viability of the Tahmoor operation.
Tahmoor currently employs more than 300 workers after 158 were made redundant about four months ago due to high production costs and lower coal prices.
In the 2009 financial year Tahmoor produced 1.86 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal.
