Organisers said preparations were well underway for the 2006 challenge to be held July 7-9. The event is being jointly organised by local mines CSA, Endeavor and Peak Gold with the support of the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
The last challenge held in 2004 was a great success with teams participating from mining operations across the state.
“The challenge provides a unique opportunity for NSW rescue teams to not only showcase their skills in various emergency disciplines but also to share ideas and experience with their counterparts from other mines operations, both coal and metalliferous,” organisers said.
Mine rescue teams from all over NSW will gather in Cobar and be part of the challenge, participating in events such as fire fighting, search and rescue, triage/first aid, vertical rope rescue, vehicle rescue, underground search and rescue, and endurance.
So far two coal mines have expressed interest in attending the challenge, with others expected to participate.
