Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has announced that four projects will be funded under the program, comprising of the Roma Sewerage Plant Augmentation, the Injune Water Augmentation Project, the Wallumbilla North Road Bitumen Seal and the Roma Flood Mitigation Project.

“Population growth as a result of the energy sector boom means the Roma sewerage and the Injune water reticulation systems do not have the capacity to cater for current or future demand,” Premier Newman said.

“Without these upgrades, growth in the region will be restricted as the infrastructure services struggle to cope.

Under the program, the Wallumbilla North Road project will see the development of 5.3km of bitumen-sealed road, helping provide better connectivity between Maranoa and Western Downs in the Surat Basin.

In addition, the Roma Flood Mitigation Project will include a 6km levee embankment, constructed adjacent to Bungil Creek.

“Roma has flooded three times in the last two years, with February 2012 seeing more than 450 homes inundated,” Newman stated.

“This project will help protect Roma homes and businesses, and provide greater peace of mind in the event of heavy rainfall and flooding in the future.”
