The incident occurred just before 8am local time at the New Future operation in Saline county, according to local media outlets. The unidentified miner received second-degree arm burns and was transported by helicopter to a medical facility.
New Future is owned by Murray Energy.
Business development vice-president Rob Murray told ILN the company was still collecting details on the incident late Monday morning but did not provide additional comment by press time.
US Mine Safety and Health Administration spokesperson Amy Louviere said the agency was also still compiling details.
The cause and exact location of the fire is still unknown, according to local media, and state and federal inspectors are onsite.
