Behre Dolbear will complete the assessment and modelling of the historical 78 million tonne inferred bituminous coal resource and surrounding area of interest. The assessment is scheduled to be completed by February 28, 2006.
The Mongolian Government has issued the Ulaan Ovoo project a transferable 55-year mining licence with a 45-year extension option.
UGL said the project was well-situated to supply Russia – the world’s sixth largest coal importer – Northern China and many parts of Asia with thermal coal. UGL said it was currently involved in preliminary marketing discussions with potential coal buyers in several countries.
The main Mongolian railroad that links Mongolia with Russia, China and deep-sea ports is 120km east of the project and is accessible year round by unpaved road.
In related news, UGL director Ranjeet Sundher has been appointed president, replacing Arnold Armstrong who has held the position for 8 years.
Toronto-listed UGL holds 18 uranium properties and nine gold and copper exploration projects in Mongolia.
