The Origin chief came in with a ranking of 88, with the rankings calculated mainly on return for investors since the CEO took on the job.
King has managed to add $US8 billion ($A7.56 billion) to Origin’s market capitalisation since taking the helm in 2000, with the return an Australia-adjusted 985% increase, and an industry-adjusted return of over 1650%.
Former Apple chief Steve Jobs topped the pile, despite his death in October, with Amazon boss Jeffrey Bezos placing second.
Of the energy sector, chief executive of Indian company Oil & Natural Gas placed ahead of the rest, coming in at 13 overall.
Fifteen out of the top 100 came from the energy sector.
