Up to 150 permanent workers at the central Queensland opencut mine attended the stop-work meeting this morning to hear details of the negotiations.

The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union confirmed for International Longwall News the main stumbling blocks for negotiations were Anglo’s requirement for staff to submit to medical examinations at any time and for staff to access their personal records if they desire.

Historically staff are required to undergo a medical examination every five years.

“The company are seeking to remove rights which currently exist and we are certainly seeking to protect those award provisions," CFMEU vice-president Stuart Vaccaneo told Australian Associated Press.

The Dawson mine produces 7 million tonnes per annum and is 51% owned by Anglo Coal Australia and 49% owned by Mitsui Coal Holdings.
