The US Mine Safety and Health Administration is again sponsoring the event in Beckley, to be held October 14–16.

The tuition-free event will include between 60 and 70 workshops for both coal and metal/nonmetal trainers and officials. Sessions on supervisory issues and interactive presentation skills are also on the seminar’s schedule.

“The small group format encourages interaction between the participants and the workshop leaders,” said organisers.

“[It also] provides opportunities for health and safety trainers to improve their training programs with new ideas and new materials.”

Also, as in past years, the agency will hold a training materials competition for those who develop training materials for miners and contractors.

Open to entrants from government, academia and industry, it includes categories in print, non-print (such as videos, interactive and presentations) and mixed media.

Exhibits will also be available for guests onsite, featuring materials developed by MSHA, the mining industry and recipients of state project grants.

The seminar will officially kick off at 1.00pm local time on October 14 and adjourn at 4.00pm on October 16. For more information, visit MSHA’s website for its upcoming events.
