The man was hurt when he was struck across the head and neck by a hydraulic hose, Associated Press said.

The news wire said yesterday the injured man was in a stable condition at Liverpool Hospital.

The Tahmoor longwall is near Picton, New South Wales, 70km south-west of Sydney.

Oil injection and hose whip have long been recognised as two very real dangers facing longwall operators working in today's high-powered longwalls.
